The Third Dog

Upcoming Book of 50 years of my photography
Great news! In 2025 we can celebrate the presentation of the monography of fifty years of my photography. Yorick de Vries of Studioanotherday in Nijmegen decided to make a book of my work. He is a renowned photobook designer and prizewinner. He won third prize in the European Design Award of 2024 for Sanne Derks's 'Manifesto del Agua'. He designed the 2023 catalog of The Best Dutch Book Designs. Dennis Gaens is a talented creative writer and Nijmegen's city poet. He writes the texts. I am in good hands! Now I'm working with my friend Geert on a plan to raise funds. That's the hardest part of the proces, I'm glad that Geert is there to see me through. Stay tuned!
Everyday Street and Reportage Photography
Every now and then you may see two dogs trotting down a street when out of nowhere a third dog appears. After some mutual sniffing they accept each other and walk along as a threesome. Some time later they separate. The two roam the streets as before, the third heads to its next encounter. The third dog, that's me. I am interested in how people interact, sniff around and let others sniff at me. When I'm accepted I become part of the scene, forget where I am and let the situation, the light and my intuition guide me.
Portrait
A portrait is an exciting collaboration between model and photographer.
Cars
I have always been interested in cars, my childhood dream was to become a racing driver or a car designer. Glamorous car photography is done in the manufacturers' studios and by car magazine photographers. Don't expect such images here.
Wegwezen
Portretten van verweesde auto's in beeld en tekst
Animals
Animals can be found anywhere on the planet. Sometimes in the company of humans; as a pet, a worker or a source of nutrition.
Projects
Nothing is what it seems to be. Playing with our visual perception fascinates me. None of these pictures are as straightforward as they may seem.
SLOW!
These plastic guys ask us to slow down in areas where we can expect playing children. Let's not disappoint them.
Lost and Found
Being a retired photographer means having lots of time to kill and little money to burn. I found a job; hiking and cleaning rental cars. Personal belongings left in cars ignited a low-fi photo project. It takes little time to put an item on the canteen table and photograph it with my phone. No flash lighting, no colour balancing, no screens, no backdrop or whatsoever. Click and back to work! This is a small side project, it will not be in my upcoming book.
Abstract
Every now and then details in everyday life wink at me, asking to be captured and exposed.
Nature and Landscape
A landscape or a detail in it can inspire me to capture it.
